Welcoming Rain

For The Love Of Puddles

Here it is, the predictable August downpour.
It started with a sprinkle, now it thunders into grey.

Concentric circles shiver over filling ponds.
Fresh sheets, unwittingly hung in gardens,
soak free of false floral scents.

Thirsty roots sigh with relief.
Foxes sip from sparkling puddles,
dragonflies flit over droplet circles on ponds.

This fleeting pitter-patter will not last for long.
Your umbrella stands by the front door,
your wellington boots are ready.

Will you fret and fuss, withdraw behind windows,
or will you dance in the droplets as if no one’s there?
